Objective: Increasing youngsters activity on the air, strengthening the reputation of the YOTA program and demonstration of support for youngsters across the world.

Three dates are scheduled per year.

1st round: 10th March, 10:00 – 21:59 UTC

b. 2nd round: 20th July, 10:00 – 21:59 UTC

c. 3rd round: 30th December, 10:00 – 21:59 UTC

STEM Amateur Radio Club Emergency Preparedness Event

Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

These stables are used for weddings and events, so please don’t let the name throw you off.
Some of the categories of emergency preparedness that will be covered include:
  • Emergency Communications: FRS (family radio service), GMRS (general mobile radio service),
    Amateur Radio, all without the use of cellular service or internet access. A STAR Link unit will be set up as
    well for satellite internet service. We’ll have a build-out station showing how to make a simple
    antenna for emergency use. There’ll be ample discussion of the critical role played by ham radio
    as we continue restoration of Western NC.
  • Emergency Power Sources (Solar, battery, generators, etc.)
  • Emergency Medicine (first aid, emergency readiness kits, etc.)
  • CAP (Civil Air Patrol) will have a booth set up with high school cadet members reviewing all the things they are involved in. A highlight will be videos and discussion of their recent involvement in the devastated areas of Western NC/ SC/TN/GA from hurricane Helene.
  • A Telescope may be available for night-time star gazing in the field at the barn after dark (TBD).
  • Possibly more to come depending on volunteers
